It’s no secret that real estate investing is a great way to reach financial freedom and build generational wealth. However, you may not know that property has spiritual significance as well. Throughout time, real estate has been God’s way to connect with His creation and express His commitment through His covenant. In this blog, we will explore real estate from a Kingdom investing perspective. Keep reading to learn what the Bible says about investing in real estate and discuss how you can take your next step as a Christian investor.

What Does the Bible Say About Investing in Real Estate?

1. All Real Estate Belongs to God

Answering this question starts with understanding who owns the real estate. The Bible makes it clear: God owns the whole earth.

  • Psalm 50:12 – “If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.”
  • Leviticus 25:23 – “The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers.”
  • Matthew 28:18 – “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'”

The first step to Kingdom investing is acknowledging that the land we own or invest in ultimately belongs to God. We aren’t owners; we are stewards. God entrusts with the responsibility of managing His resources wisely…which entails making the best decisions on how to multiply the money we have.

2. God Wants to Partner with His People in the Land

God’s purposes for the land including partnering with His people! From the beginning, God blessed humanity with land to enjoy and take care of.

  • Genesis 2:15 – “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

God placed Adam in the garden, gave him dominion over the land, and instructed him to cultivate and steward it.

Later, He gave His people the Promised Land, an abundant space where they could flourish and demonstrate His glory to the surrounding nations.

  • Deuteronomy 8:7-9 – “For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills; a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.”

Even today, God gives us His Kingdom, entrusting us with the responsibility and authority to bring His will to earth.

  • Matthew 16:19 – “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

So, investing in real estate is not merely a financial decision–it’s spiritual one with eternal significance. It is a way to participate in God’s work on earth by bringing Kingdom principles into the marketplace.

3. Real Estate Investing is a Pathway to Partnership

While the Bible does not explicitly address real estate investing, it does provide wisdom about the importance of investing wisely.

  • Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 – “Ship your grain across the sea; after many days you may receive a return. Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.”

So, biblical wisdom tells us to divide our investments among many places. History tells us that real estate is a pretty great place to start. In fact, studies show that 90% of millionaires have some level of investment in real estate. Success leaves clues—if millionaires are investing in real estate, perhaps you should consider it, too!

God's purposes

Biblical Investing Principles Applied to Real Estate

If you are a Christian looking to invest in real estate, here are four biblical principles that can help you align your investments with God’s purposes:

1. Care for the Needy

At the end of the day, God’s purposes for our money is to make a difference. Real estate can be a tool to impact the lives of people in need, both through the income it generates and the investment itself.

I love the picture Leviticus 19:9-10 paints about using land to care for the needy:

“When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.”

God’s purposes for prospering you is bigger than you. In Kingdom investing, the primary question is “How can my investment help people at the highest level?” That involves maximizing profits AND maximizing impact.

For example, as a real estate investor you can:

  • Provide an affordable, safe place to live
  • Go the extra mile to bless your tenants
  • Transform broken spaces into beautiful ones, revitalizing neighborhoods and communities
  • Use rental income and equity to fund Kingdom work

2. Practice Extravagant Giving

God blesses us to be a blessing. Real estate investing can be a wealth-building engine that multiplies your “seed” to sow into others:

  • 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 – “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Real estate can help you reach financial freedom–the place where your passive income (from rentals) exceeds your expenses. From there, you can increase your portfolio and give even more. At WealthBuilders, we help real estate investors reach “The 3rd X” — a place where they can give or reinvest 100% of their passive income above their target living allowance to making a difference.

3. Advance the Kingdom

Proverbs 11:10 says, “When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.” That’s because when the righteous prosper, they help the city prosper as well.

Ask yourself:

  • What’s broken in the world, and how could your wealth fund a solution to mend it?
  • How can your properties create opportunities for ministry and outreach?
  • How can property investment in the land lead to spiritual investment?

4. Build Generational Wealth

The Bible encourages us to leave a financial legacy for future generations.

  • Proverbs 13:22 – “A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.”

Real estate is one of the most effective ways to build generational wealth. In fact, a solid real estate portfolio could change your family’s financial trajectory. By acquiring and managing properties wisely, you can set up future generations for financial success and teach them biblical investing principles as well.
